This is the fifth year that Ebbetts Pass Forest Watch is hosting the Wild and Scenic Film Festival on Tour in Calaveras County. We will kick of the festival at the Black Bart Playhouse and will host films at local restaurants and wineries to expand the program and include discussion about what is important to us in the county. We are also bringing one day of films at Bear Valley. The Festival on Tour is made possible by SYRCL and Patagonia. We will provide free childcare this year on opening night. There will be free raffles, silent auction and lots of gifts.
SYRLC and Patagonia bring the Wild & Scenic Film Festival on Tour
Hosting the first environmental film festival in Nevada City, California, in 2003, was yet another avenue for the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL, pronounced ‘circle’) to promote community-building within the Yuba Watershed, as well as a way to explore environmental issues within a larger, global scale through an exciting and influential medium. The first four festivals of the 23-year-old grassroots organization have proved wildly successful, bringing in award-winning international films, filmmakers, celebrities, activists, and filmgoers from all over the western United States. SYRCL has now partnered with Patagonia to present the Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival on Tour. Just as the festival uses film to promote and encourage grassroots environmental activism, Patagonia uses business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis. By joining forces, we can use the strength of our common goals to bring this motivating film festival to as many viewers and potential activists as possible. By showing the Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival to diverse audiences across the country, we want to inspire more individuals to take action and to help in the environmental movement.
The mission of Ebbetts Pass Forest Watch is to protect, promote and restore healthy forests and watersheds while maintaining quality of life in the Sierra Nevada. We are not opposed to all logging, but do oppose logging that devastates the forests and replaces them with tree plantations. We are working to promote responsible, sustainable timber harvest practices through public education, legal action, and coordination with other conservation groups. www.epfw.org
